Admission Process

Havenwood offers both long-term care and respite relief care to meet the diverse needs of our residents.

Long-term care provides enhanced services for individuals who require assistance with all aspects of daily living. We offer both private and semi-private accommodations to ensure a comfortable living environment.

Respite or Relief care is available in Level 2, providing temporary support for families who wish to keep seniors in their own homes, or to prevent hospitalization during recovery from surgery or illness. This service helps caregivers manage other commitments while ensuring their loved ones receive the care they need.

Access to long-term care services (LTC) is voluntary. To begin the process, contact the Department of Social Development (SD) at 1-833-733-7835. Please note that the assessment process may take some time, so it’s important to start as early as possible. The department will assess your loved one to determine the level of care needed.

Once the assessment is complete, you can contact your preferred long-term care home to inquire about room availability. Depending on the room type, availability may vary. If your preferred room is not available, your name can be added to a waiting list, and you will be contacted once a suitable room becomes available. When a vacancy arises, all individuals on the list are contacted, and the room is secured when a deposit is placed.

If you prefer a private room but only a semi-private room is available, you may “bump the line” by agreeing to take the semi-private room. In this case, your loved one will be moved to the top of the list and transferred to a private room when it becomes available.

When your loved one is assessed by Social Development, they will need permission to access their income information through Revenue Canada. The subsidy qualification will be based on their individual income.

For Level 2, the government provides a minimum subsidy of $1,380.56 and a maximum subsidy of $3,722.64 depending on their income. The resident is responsible for paying the difference between the government subsidy and our home’s monthly rate.

For Level 3B and 3G, the minimum subsidy the government provides is $3,508.50 and the maximum is $6,033.08 depending on their income. Similarly, the resident is responsible for the difference between the subsidy and our home’s monthly rate.

All residents will receive a minimum subsidy, regardless of their income. At Havenwood, we include the subsidy in the rental fee, allowing you to easily calculate the out-of-pocket expense based on the subsidy amount your loved one qualifies for.
